Although the trek lasts 7 days on the mountain, the full itinerary is 9 days, including your arrival and departure.

Itinerary

Accommodation: Overnight at a hotel in Moshi.Activities: Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll meet your guide and be transferred to your hotel. Relax and attend a pre-climb briefing to prepare for the journey ahead.

Trekking Time: 5–7 hoursDistance: 11 km (7 miles)Altitude Gain: +1,035mHighlights:Drive to Machame Gate to complete registration and begin the trek.Ascend through a dense rainforest with towering trees, ferns, and wildlife.Arrive at Machame Camp, nestled in the montane forest zone.

Trekking Time: 4–6 hoursDistance: 5 km (3.1 miles)Altitude Gain: +915mHighlights:Climb out of the forest into the moorland zone, with stunning views of the Shira Plateau.Enjoy your first clear views of Kibo Peak.Camp at Shira Camp, a scenic spot with expansive views of the mountain and surrounding plains.

Trekking Time: 6–8 hoursDistance: 10 km (6.2 miles)Altitude Gain: +880m (to Lava Tower), -654m (to Barranco)Highlights:A challenging day as you ascend to Lava Tower for acclimatization.Descend to Barranco Camp, passing through the unique Senecio Forest.Marvel at the towering Barranco Wall and enjoy the stunning views from camp.

Trekking Time: 4–5 hoursDistance: 5 km (3.1 miles)Altitude Gain: +19mHighlights:Climb the famous Barranco Wall, a thrilling but non-technical scramble.Trek through rolling terrain with dramatic views of the southern glaciers.Arrive at Karanga Camp, an ideal spot for further acclimatization.

Trekking Time: 3–5 hoursDistance: 4 km (2.5 miles)Altitude Gain: +678mHighlights:Ascend to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit push.Enjoy spectacular views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.Rest and prepare for the summit attempt, which begins at midnight.

Trekking Time: 10–14 hoursDistance: 19 km (12 miles)Altitude Gain: +1,222m (to the summit), -2,827m (descent)Highlights:Start the climb at midnight to reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise, the highest point in Africa.Celebrate your achievement and take photos before descending to Mweka Camp for the night.   Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,640m) Trekking Time: 3–5 hours Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles) Altitude Loss: -1,428m Highlights: Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for a well-deserved celebration and rest.
